Woman Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Assault Succumbs to Injuries

The female victim stabbed repeatedly to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop within Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.

The victim, who was 34, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 21:00 GMT Friday evening, West Midlands Police said.

Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges for the violent incident.

He was previously accused of attempted murder however after the woman's death the charge has been updated to include murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

The force said police personnel will remain in the downtown area on Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.

Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, who is described as a Black British national, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and rucksack.

The stabbing happened outside the Bullring shopping centre, opposite the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they classified it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said efforts continue to determine the motive behind.

Witness Accounts

An area worker, employed in the vicinity, recounted the emergency response when she finished her shift at about 22:00 on Friday.

She described the scene as "quite chaotic", and said co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances at about 21:00.

"A lot of my colleagues take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised fundamentally, here in the city centre."

Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, expressing concern about what had happened.

"It makes me worried about my partner," he said.

"She lacks transportation employed at all of the big music venues... and to think something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's horrible."
